Trump and the Rapture

There has been a lot of discussion about Evangelical Christians and their support of Donald Trump.   On the surface, many liberals and moderates don’t understand that support.   Trump does not appear to be the type of person whose moral code would mesh with those who are Evangelical.

But if you take a closer look, Trump is the perfect candidate for those who are radical right Christians.   And the biggest reason is The Rapture.   For those unfamiliar, The Rapture is predicted in the 12th book of Revelations, and many evangelicals believe that Revelations 12:1-6 describes the second coming of Christ.

“Now a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a garland of twelve stars. Then being with child, she cried out in labor and in pain to give birth.

And another sign appeared in heaven: behold, a great, fiery red dragon having seven heads and ten horns, and seven diadems on his heads. His tail drew a third of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was ready to give birth, to devour her Child as soon as it was born. She bore a male Child who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron. And her Child was caught up to God and His throne. Then the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, that they should feed her there one thousand two hundred and sixty days.”  (New King James Version)

While I am not by any means religious, I do know a lot of religious people, and many that would be described as evangelical.   One person I know is a minister of music in an evangelical church near my town.  He is also a huge Trump supporter.   I’ve asked him how he can support the current President, and he said it is God’s will, and that the other candidates in the 2016 election were of the devil.   Now, before you get images of Robert Tilton, or Jim Bakker, or any of those charlatans in your mind, let me tell you that the man I am speaking of is truly a good, caring person.   He truly believes in God, and truly believes that he is going to heaven.   In fact, he came close to making the trip recently.   My friend had to have an emergency transplant, and faced sure death had a donor not come available.   (I also find it interesting that this man supports Trump, and the Republicans and the dismantling of affordable insurance, because if I were to ever need a transplant, I would be out of luck due to lack of quality insurance.)

So why does my friend support Trump?   Its very simple.  He belongs to a church that believes that the Rapture is near, and that Trump is the person who will ultimately cause the final days to begin.

Let that sink in for a moment.

Evangelicals elected Donald Trump, not to lead the country, but to bring an end to the world.

Unless you are an evangelical, that should scare you silly, because what is happening is that those who are ultra rich now have essentially free reign to take over the planet, and leave us all behind.   We are already seeing signs that society in the United States is degrading at a rapid pace.   Infrastructure is collapsing, because there is no money to repair aging roads, bridges, gas lines, water lines, and the list goes on.

The middle class is virtually non-existent anymore, due to stagnant wages, and costs soaring out of control.  Our democracy is now a plutocracy, where those with the money run the country.

Now, is all hope lost?   No, not at all.   Moderates in the US are starting to wake up, and realize that the good times they had are gone, and are looking at the reasons why.   I believe that is the reason so many Republican elected officials are running scared, as they see the impending wave about to vote them out of office in November.   I believe that is our only hope, to put fresh faces in those seats, from Congress, on down to the local level.

We can only hope that common sense prevails before someone blows our planet to bits.
